This is how you remind me

Yesterday I was blasting 'Torn' -Creed-in my ears and realized something. The days when Torn was actually cool, are over; and music may never be the same.

Today's world is almost completely computerized in some way, shape, or form. So right now I am going to make myself sound like an old fogey by saying: "Music now is not what it used to be."

Remember the 90's and early 00's?

Okay, okay was some questionable flannel shirts being tossed around but, hey, people wear dresses made of meat now!

Anyhoo, the music of the 90's and 00's was impressive, and arguably some of the best years for rock.
There was music that was really, truly music from an instrument and a voice.
Now everyone uses synthesizers, computers, protool, and God knows what else to distort the sound waves (this is really cool in the right hands. Especially the people that did it back in the day)
Raw and awesome voices are cleaned up and manipulated to where they have about as much natural beautifulness as Heidi Montag has real skin.

Am I the only one that misses the good old days?
Back when Brent Smith pretended he was burning bright and Amy Lee held her breath underwater for several minutes while simultaneously head-banging with zombies?

Ah, yeah...good times, good times....

Of course there are still many artists that still sound nice...but they could sound stupendous. (Yes, I did just say stupendous, bite me)

Let's use Aaron Lewis -Staind- ad an example.
In his early career he was unique. He had a slight yarl, he could scream when he wanted to, and he could sing softly. (Sorry for the poor description Staind fans)

'Can Lewis not sing anymore?'you ask?

Well of course he can! But they tune out all of the simple pureness in the studio.

That's not to say that the finished product sucks, but still, it could be better by being natural.

You're seeing a pattern in my point now, aren't you?

We still have some players that haven't gone completely Hollywood on us.
For instance Seether
You've got to love Seether, because they have really stayed true to themselves in the bigger picture.
(Super, mucho admire Shaun Morgan's voice)

I guess in this digital age, if I want raw talent I'll have to go see it in concert.
Alas!

(I miss the yarl...)
:(

P.S. I am not an old fogey, I was born in 1996. I just listen to all music.

P.S.

P.S. I was reading my old blog posts, and I have to say I'm so sorry for all of the bands I misspelled and a few screwed up 'facts' that I didn't word correctly.
Please throw me a bone, I'm blogging on an iPod for Pete's sake....

I'm here to tell you this post just about killed me.

We're enemies: A hard rock list of angry songs

Do you ever glare at someone so hard that you are positive your eyes are cursing them to burn in the fiery depths of hell for all of eternity?
Or perhaps, you long to scream and shriek and roar at the gall of your arch enemy?
Maybe you just really, really, really don't like someone and you are suppressing evil thoughts that stir in your brain...

(Someone nodded at one of the above mentioned things, I know you did)
Either way, I think we all can say that  we have been angry at some point or another in our lives. Thankfully, since everyone has this emotion, there are plenty of songs that narrate the feeling of ire.

I have thus, created a list of the best angry songs based on lyrics, music, and that overall emotion coursing into our ears and through our being.

10. Swept Away, ( Flyleaf)
If it wasn't for the mediocre chorus, I would've put this song higher on my list. But as it stands, it's only the bridge and the verses that are awesome. But boy, are they awesome!
To me the lyrics are talking about a person that is holier-than-thou, and said person is a liar as well. "The evil fell from your pretty mouth"
I can feel the pent up aggression as it builds and builds, until Lacey Sturm just lets all of it go. "Get this hell out, get this hell out, out, out of my way!"

9. Coming Down, (Five Finger Death Punch)
There's defiantly some ire behind Ivan Moody's words, though they may not blatantly state something we all can relate to, I appreciate the underlying message that he won't conform to someone else's expectations.
Plus, Jeremy Spencer is killing the drums in this song, ( as he always does).

8. Next Contestant, ( Nickleback)
Eh, this one isn't about something totally relatable, and I was going for songs that WEREN'T about romantic relationships.
But technically, it isn't about a relationship, it's about being a tad possessive and not liking the fact that the person one is in a relationship with, is being flirted with. (Unnecessary explanation)
I really like the groove to this song, so it's number eight.

7. Fake it, (Seether)
"Whoa, you're such a f****** hypocrite"
I think that pretty much wraps it up.

6. Sick, (Evanescence)
This song is about frustration ( in my opinion).
She's 'sick of it all', and we've been there.
Rejecting the norm of someone else, giving up on trying to fix the twisted minds of others, knowing the truth, and just not giving a flying flip what anybody says about you.
The groove is cool too; it gives me time to think out who I am mad at and brood...it's a broody groove.
"I can still taste the poison, of every thought, every breath I wasted here"

5. Bodies, (Drowning Pool)
If you are like me and have homicidal thoughts (not really, I just want to crush building with my bare hands), then this song is your soulmate.
Okay, okay, he's not really talking about killing people...as a matter of fact, I think the song is about his parents...
It doesn't really matter to me. He's mad, I'm mad, it's a nice/toxic combination.
"One: nothing wrong with me. Two: nothing wrong with me. Three: nothing wrong with me. Four: nothing wrong with me!"

4. Bury me alive, (We are the fallen)
These lyrics are self-explanatory: a loved one makes them feel like their suffocating and said loved one doesn't give a crap.
Personally, I can feel the betrayal and disappointment when Carly Smithson sings.
I like how she does seen angry without screaming or cussing every other breath.
"You bury me alive, and everybody's got to breathe somehow, don't leave me to die, you're too consumed by your own emptiness and lies"

3. My name -wearing me out-, (Shinedown)
To me, this song is the embodiment of anger. I hear it and it doesn't matter if I was angry beforehand or not, I want to curse someone until their ears bleed. (No, I am not psychotic, just a little bit sadistic).
But I didn't make it number one, because I adore Shinedown, and I do not want to be biased.
Basically, it's about being fed up, and being sick of the person that is constantly trying to bring you down. ( Man, I hate people like that).
The band is jamming, and yes, I did headbang once to it.
I HEART the lyrics:
"My name is worthless like you told me I once was, my name is empty 'cuz you drained away the love, my name is searching since you stole my only soul, my name is hatred and for reasons we both know"

2. Come again, (Staind)
"I hate myself for you, I break myself for you, I'd kill myself for you, I'd better save myself from you. Every time you want me to be, something I could never be, guess we'll have to wait and see, 'til the next time that you have to come again"
These lyrics obviously have some serious conflict, pain, and eventual fury.
I have memorized the words backwards and forwards, so if ever need be, I will revert to these words in an argument.

1. Taking you down, (Egypt Central)
Put this song on your 'I hate people' playlist or mix tape.
From beat, music, lyrics, and delivery of the lyrics, it rocks. I mean, it literally screams livid.
I completely feel it and am in total agreement with John Falls, I'm just saying.
This track has now been officially crowned (by unofficial) me, the King of Rage Song. (Cheese, bite me).
It's reward is postage of all the lyrics.

"I've had enough, I'm taking you down, taking you down; I've had enough, I'm taking you down, taking you down.

You've been all up in my face, out of line and out of place, blurring views, distorting facts, every time I turn my back.
I'll make you know your position, don't talk, just shut up and listen. Bi way out now, you can't play dumb. Get up, get out, 'cuz you'll get some!

I've had enough, I'm taking you down, taking you down. I've had enough, I'm taking you down, taking you down.

I feel the hate that you breath, it's the fix that feeds your greed, set your bait, set your trap, take a seat and watch me snap!
I'll shake the ground that you stand on, I'll still be here when your long gone. This moment's mine, you can't have it, it's my turn to burn and wreak havoc.

I've had enough, I'm taking you down, taking you down. I've had enough, I'm taking you down, taking you down.

Down, down, I'll take you down, down, down, I'll take you down!

I've had enough, I'm taking you down, taking you down. I've had enough, I'm taking you down, taking you down."

So there you have it, the playlist for my enemies.

*Sigh* : I wish I was hulk, because then I wouldn't need these songs.
*Inner self gasps* : Blasphemy
*Grins Sheepishly*

Oops, I did it again

I know I've neglected this blog for a while, it's not intentional, I just haven't had a wifi connection...I still don't, I'm just hijacking someone else's at the moment.

Ok, so this is going to be brief.

I have been jamming to covers here lately, so perhaps I should let my lovely readers enjoy the same remade songs.

Here's a speedy recommendation list:
In this moment: Call me, (org. Blondie)
In this moment: Heaven's a lie, (org. Lacuna Coil)
Lacuna Coil: Enjoy the Silence, (org. Depeche Mode)
Chris Cornell: Billie Jean, (org. Michael Jackson)
Thrice: Since U been gone, (Kelly Clarkson)
Ben Moody: Grave Digger, (org. Dave Mathews)
Ben Moody: Whiskey Lullaby, ( org. Brad Paisley)

Alright, I have to stop here and say, out of all of those, Whiskey Lullaby will absolutely bring you to tears.
I love Ben Moody's version of this song!
He's been doing many covers lately, it's a part of his Music Mondays thing.
At least one of Mr. Moody's covers will make you pee yourself, I guarantee.

P.S. I apologize for any misspelled words ect.
I don't know when you'll hear from me again my lovelies...crap! I gotta go, somebody is trying to break down my door.

Lyrics for Not strong enough & The Last song I'm wasting on you

These two songs are amazing, they are both sad and beautiful.

Apocalyptica, ft. Brent Smith: Not Strong Enough, Lyrics

I'm not strong enough to stay away, can't run from you, I just run back to you.
Like a moth I'm drawn into you flame, you say my name, but it's not the same.
You look in my eyes, I'm stripped of my pride, and my soul surrenders and you bring my heart to its knees

                                                               (Chorus)
And It's killing me when you're away, and I wanna to leave and wanna stay.
I'm so confused, so hard to choose, between the pleasure and the pain.
And I know it's wrong and I know it's right, even if I tried to win the fight, my heart would overrule my mind, and I'm not strong enough to stay away....

I'm not strong enough to stay away, what can I do? I would die without you.
In your presence my heart knows no shame, I'm not to blame, because you bring my heart to its knees

                                                            (Chorus)

There's nothing I can do, my heart is chained to you.
And I can't get free.
Look what this love's done to me.

                                                       (Chorus)

Okay, this song is perfect! I mean the music is rock sometimes, and then it is symphonic, and there's the cellos; Brent's voice is lovely, it's high, it's low, it's a vocal holy grail. Not to mention the lyrics are intoxicationg.
To be honest, this song is so sexy, I mean it's just....uh!
You can get this on their 7th Symphony album.

Evanessence: The Last Song I'm Wasting on You, Lyrics

Sparkling grey, they're my own veins....
Any more than a whisper, any sudden movement of my heart....
And I know, I know I'll have to watch them pass away.
Just get through this day.

Give up your way, you could be anything.
Give up my way, and lose myself.....not today, that's too much guilt to pay...

Sickened in the sun, you dare tell me you love me.
But you held me down and screamed you wanted me to die.
Honey you know, you know I'd never hurt you that way.
You're just so pretty in your pain.

Give up my way, I could be anything.
I'll make my own way, without your senseless hate, hate, hate, hate.

So run, run, run; and hate me, if it feels good.
I can't hear your screams anymore.
You lied to me, but I'm older now, and I'm not buying, baby.
Demanding my response, don't bother breaking down the door.
I found my way out.
And you'll never hurt me again...

I adore this song, it makes me weep.
Of course, Amy Lee's voice just makes you want to cry anyway, but paired with these emotional lyrics and the slow piano and all of its simplicity...oh my god, I just want to burst with admiration.
It is a good song for a victim of abuse too, because it sounds like she's actually been through it...I don't know what else to say...
You can't get this song on any cd that I'm aware of...it's really rare. But it should be on itunes or amazon.

Listen to me

I recommend...
Here's a recommendations list. It's pretty much based on the lead singer's voices.
I've actually posted this already, but, something happened -I think- and it didn't show up; but if you see this twice, I apologize.

These similar artist, I'm sorting this line by line...

These are similar: Nirvana, Seether, Theory of a Deadman, possibly Hinder.

Paramore, Hey Monday, VersaEmerge.

Shinedown, Adelitas Way. If you enjoy Brent Smith's voice, he's done a many duet, like with Apocalytica.

Evanessence, We are the Fallen, Noctura, Within Temptation, Sirenia, possibly Ravenscry.

Lacuna Coil (m/f duo), Eowyn, Krypteria, possibly Delain and Tristiana (m/f duo). You could say the above line and this line are similar, but I like to seperate them.

Epica, Nightwish (m/f duo).

Taproot, Alice in Chains, maybe Creed, Pearl Jam.

Bush, Nickleback, this one's a stretch...Breaking Benjamin.

Christina Perri, Hana Pestle, maybe Grace Potter & the Nortunrals.....this one is also a stretch...The Civil Wars (m/f duo).

Drowning Pool, Stemm, I would throw in Pantera.

A Perfect Circle, Tool, Pusicfier. (I have to warn you, Tool and especially Pusicfier are offensive to some audiences -namely me- and A Perfect Circle at times writes songs about being a drug addict and they did delve into politics in one album. IMPORTANT NOTE: All three of these bands have the same lead singer)

Flyleaf and Fireflight are kinda-sorta similar.

The Fray, Coldplay. (It could just be me.)

Eyes Set to Kill (m/f duo)......actually I don't have a recommendation for this one......perhaps Kitten......the female singer of Eyes Set to Kill reminds me of Paramore for some reason.

Unsun, Sirenia -again-.

Okay folks, that's all for now.

Ask me anything and I will gladly do what I can to find you  a similar artist/band.

P.S Be a lamb and help me with Straight Line Stitch.

Fortune, Fame, Mirror Vain, Gone Insane

Ever wonder why artists Do-Crazy-Crap-for-Attention sometimes?

Imagine you just built your dreamhome, it's your heart and soul, but no one else pays it any attention.
But, if the walls were zebra-striped, the roof glittered, and the lawn made of neon yellow boas, everyone would pay attention.

Lady Gaga is the epitome of DCCA, she has an amazing voice and makes catchy songs (I've been known to sing a little Po-po-po-pokerface) but she wouldn't have nearly as much fame as she does if it wasn't for her WTH wardrobe. Smashing liqour bottles on flaming pianoes is always a good eye-catcher too...

True, pop preformers have to stand out from the crowd more, but my point's the same.

Poor Terry Balasmo -of Evanessence-, hurt his neck from headbanging for attention, (and to hype up the crowd too, I guess) and when his neck was out of commision, he swapped headbanging for dreadlocks.

Still Evanessence, Amy Lee is actually blonde and has green eyes, but since she was in a gothic rock band, she dyed her hair black, bought blue-eye contacts, and a pair of batwings.

Lacuna Coil's front-duo stand out, Andrea's long hair, goofy mustache, and biker sleeves, and Christina's wearing black leather underwear over her pants.

Muse puts vampire teddybears that want to take over the world in their music videos.

Howabout Greenday? Billie Armstrong's onstage persona is enough to make him unique, and his appererance well...he did get kicked off of a plane for saggy pants. (They're working on a new album by the way)

Gavin Rossdale -of Bush- looks homeless sometimes. His wife, Gwen Stefani -as if I have to tell you, No Doubt-, has her own ways of standing out.

Let's not forget The Great Orange Hope, Halyley Williams -Paramore- deserves to be in this post for her haircolor alone. Plus her tomboy style that she'll ditch for a dress, just to throw us off every now and then.

Performers make themselves blacksheep sometimes so they are noticed, even if they are unlike anyone else. I have to blame producers getting in their ears too, I mean, why else would everyone try so hard to be different?
Producers suck, they make have influence over bands/artists, and then we end up with a sea of blah-blah-blah robots.

That's why I love Phil Phillips, a contestant on American Idol, he comes out every night in a T-shirt and jeans and sings his butt off.
He knows who he is and doesn't let anyone tell him what he should and shouldn't do, as he put it, he's not there to touch -annoying, screaming- girl's hands, he's there to play music.
He remains true through music, preforming, and cosmetically.
(Take that, Tommy Hilfiger!)

Allright, I'm gonna post a picture of a dancing spider monkey in frilly, pinky panties so somebody will pay attention to me...

:)

P.S Can you guess what song my title comes from?

Smile pretty for the devil

There are many bands out there that are placed under the Christian Rock genre, and in case you haven't noticed, being in this catagory means they're automatically judged as -dare I say- 'uncool' or 'stupid'.
I remember watching the Best Songs of the 00's, 'Arms wide open' by Creed was on there, though exactly what the commentators said escapes me, they were basically saying that they didn't really see Creed as a good rock band, but rather saw them only for their Christian belief.
Now I'm not saying this isn't the least bit right, it is, they are religious, but I highly doubt that is all they wish to be known for, when they produce some awesome music anyone can like.

I, myself, have commited this ignorant assumption that if they are labeled Christian rock, it means you're listening to a preacher in sing-song.
Nearly, I missed out on Flyeaf, a band that has more real rock qualities than Shinedown, because I was affraid I'd be buying something my aunt Fannie would like.
Flyleaf has repeatedly said that they are simply a band with Christian views and are not trying to play for one audience in paticular; which should go without saying anyway.
Songs should be taken however one personally interpets it.
Take 'All around me', some people could say this is a song about god or you could say it is about a boyfriend/husand, maybe a passed loved one. The possiblities never cease, as it it should be.

I suppose my point is that there are lots of good music out there, the members may be religious but it doesn't take away from their music.

Here's some good rock bands - with openly Christian members-, but they aren't MercyMe.

DecyferDown.
Skillet.
The Letter Black.
Flyleaf.
We are the fallen.
Fireflight.
Alterbridge.
Creed.

Let's just listen and make music what we want it to be.
